quokka burn

Two French Working Holiday Makers used a lighter and a deodorant can to burn a quokka. The abhorrent event occurred on April 3 at Rottnest Island.

The two offenders, Thibaud Jean Leon Vallet, 24 and his cousin Jean Mickael Batrikian, 18 were fined $4000 each in Fremantle Magistrates Court
They will be held in custody for 1 week or until their fine of $4000 is paid.

A video was taken by Thibaud Jean Leon Vallet of the incident.The flame reached 30-centimetre in length singeing the quokka’s head and body. The tourists were seen laughing in the video after the cruel act. Absolutely disgusting scenes.

Both the men have lost their working holiday jobs as a result of their actions and spent time in behind bars. It could have been much worse, the maximum penalty faced by the backpackers was $50,000 and five years’ jail.

Vallet and Batrikian had their passports confiscated and are expected to leave Australia very shortly. See ya later.

    I spent 8 months in WA with the working holiday visa, working everywhere, studying as well and enjoying a free life before coming in the adult life of the “nothing to do”. I apologize for these guys that are unrespectable, not just for Australia, but for the world. We can say that they are young they are stupid, all that we want. of course in 90% of cases, their parents did educate them But you know, everybody did a bulshit at least in their life. The fine is good, to teach them that there are some rules in life to live with the others.
    By my side, I can tell that I found a lot of nice people in Australia, helpful, easy going and so on… but also, especially in Margaret River and karratha, a lot of persons that don’t like travelers, don’t like people getting around with a van. Yes, you looked at us like homeless, like shit. But remember, we have a family, a house, a car and so on in our country. And I would share everything I have with who has the need or the desire. You are lucky because of your country. I would be jealous to maybe… but try to help travellers, this is what we know australian for… the hospitality… Maybe years and years ago??? With love Alberto. Check my Facebook, “Otrebla Nidrob”. I would love to have some friends from there to speak with. cheers seeya

    We arrived in Perth five months ago. Meanwhile we have done denmark, albany adelaide melbourne sydney ,gold coast cairns , tasmania ,new zealand ,As in any country in the world you have friendly people & less friendly people. We cycled by bike from Melbourne to (Sydney) We cycled through lillydale, warburton, marysville, Benalla, warangatta, Albury, Wagga Wagga and received by some people as children, others were less entoushiast.
    Everyone expects Australians that they are always very friendly and open with backpackers but we also have a duty to get some dignified for the day.
    Of course we also have done working hostels And when you see the kind of people who hangs out there sometimes…
    Looks like a bum and a mentality that we also do not want in Europe.
    Then we can understand that not every. Aussie is positive about us.
    It must come from 2 sides!
    It is one of the friendliest countries we have personally visited ,An unforgettable experience which We are grateful for the Australians and the country.

    See ya later (;
