Noosa is located at the northern part of the Sunshine coast and has been voted the Best Backpacker City/Region in Australia at the 2013 TNT Golden Backpack Awards. Noosa beat Byron Bay, Cairns and Sydney who were amongst the finalist to take the prize.
All guns were firing in Noosa, with the National Trust-Listed Halse Lodge YHA Guest House winning best hostel in Queensland and Australia. The owner of the Halse Lodge, Drew Pearson said he was thrilled with the win.
“Youth and adventure travellers are a crucial part of both the present and future of Noosa’s tourism economy and the awards reflect that great work has been done by Tourism Noosa and local operators,” Mr Pearson said. “We need to continue to work together to ensure that all operators in our region provide the best products and guest experiences to keep these valuable and long-term travellers coming to Noosa.”
The latest data from Tourism Research Australia shows this continues to be an important market segment, with more than 1.6 million youth travellers choosing Australia, representing 26% of all inbound arrivals.
