When I first heard of a car relocation I was skeptical. I thought for sure it had to be too good to be true. I go online and look at vehicles that need to go from one city to another and for a minimal price per day ( usually around 5.00), usually a large KM’s allowance and occasionally fuel included I get the privilege of driving this brand new rental car. Seemed fishy!

Our Situation

We finished our time in Adelaide and wanted to drive the Great Ocean Road. We had a 1991′ Ford Festiva which did well for getting us around Adelaide but wasn’t up to the challenge of that drive. We looked into Wicked rentals because A- They looked really really cool and B- Camping would be a great way to save on accommodations, unfortunately the one way fee was a little too steep for us.

I had registered on a wait list on www.immova.com since they didn’t have any cars going from Adelaide on our time line. By some miracle by the travel gods we got a phone call 4 days before we wanted to leave offering us a vehicle. It was a blessing since the alternative was driving the ol’ festiva as far as she would go and then laying her to rest somewhere along the way if she wasn’t able to make the trek. This seemed like a much better option. A brand new Hyundai with bluetooth.

It seemed like everything was going as plan until it came time to switch drivers. I had assumed my drive co-pilot could also drive a manual… Well joke was on me since he wasn’t able to and I by default got to really experience driving the Great Ocean Road, every last KM of it. 🙂

If you’re flexible

Relocation is the way to go if you don’t really have a travel plan. It can help to dictate where your next stop will be and its the cheapest way to get there while giving you the freedom to stop along the way and take advantage of the sites off the beaten track. Perfect for working holiday visa holders.

If you google relocation Australia you will find a few other companies offering similar offers such as Apollo campers which also offers camper van relocation’s. They go to and from the major cities in Australia ( there are even some to Hobart) as well as in and around New Zealand. So if you have an open travel schedule or don’t mind joining a wait list and waiting for something to come up then I highly recommend this way of travel. Its cheap and you get to drive fun new cars!

Happy Relocating!

Hailing all the way from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada! I've spent some time living in Germany while playing pro-bball, backpacking Asia and now am living in AUS on a working holiday visa. My time spent in Canada was spent working with a group of wonderful complex special needs young people. It brought a lot of fulfilment and long days. No two days were every alike. It was time to take a break from that and see what the rest of the world had to offer. Once we are finished our time in AUS we are looking for some volunteer opportunities in Africa and South America as we "work" our way home.
